2009 In Review

I thought it would be fun to show some of the highlights and low lights of 2009 in pictures...I'm sure I will leave something out, but here are some events and occasions that stand out in my mind for this year.

Beth in ballet.

Our new bedroom set.

Our miscarriage.

Ryan's new car.

Lots of family fun!

James turns 2!

More family fun outside.

Finishing part of the basement.

Decorating Beth's room.

Lots of cousin fun.

Two family weddings to get dressed up for. :)

It's a Girl!

Park city get away trip.

Beth turns 4!

Halloween fun.

Building the new baby's room.

Baby belly.

Christmas 2009.

And of course, Ryan's new job and my new little jewelry business were big things this year too, but no pictures for that. :)

What a year it has been, and what a year we have to come! Time flies so fast. I feel like I just graduated high school and here I am, married, two kids, a third on the way, a house, 2 seems unbelievable really! I hope this new year brings you all joy and adventure, I'm sure it will bring a lot of those things to my house!

We had a fantastic Christmas this year. The kids are at perfect ages to make Christmas fun and exciting for everyone.

We started Christmas Eve decorating sugar cookies with friends. If you need a recipe, I've got the yummiest recipe ever, it was VERY dangerous having these cookies in the house. yum!! In the evening we went out to eat with family and watched a movie to pass the time until bed, great times.

Here is the post-Santa tree.

Santa loved his cookies and milk!

Mommy's haul.

Beth's pile o' presents.

James' stash.

Oops, guess I never got a picture of all of Daddy's presents, he wasn't forgotten though!

The kids favorite gifts seemed to be James' new racetrack and cars, and Beth's new set of Dress-up clothes and accessories. They loved everything they opened though and were very appreciative, it was great.

During the afternoon we went to Grandma and Grandpa Owen's house and had a great ham dinner with the whole family and opened a few more gifts. I, of course, forgot to take pictures of that part of the days events. It truly was a Merry Christmas for all of us, despite eating myself completely uncomfortably sick. :) Someday I'll learn not to eat so much when I'm this big pregnant! I hope you all had a great day as well. We love you all! Please know that we love you, even though we did not send out one Christmas card this year...I guess the baby announcement will have to count in a few months!

I need help. I am having a dickens of a time deciding on a name for this baby. I know its not imperative that I decide right this minute, but its making me a little nuts. We had basically decided on a name, but I'm all unsettled about it and have to explore my options again, so that being said, I made another name poll on So, anyone who is interested, go and give your opinion. I'm hoping that seeing some votes will help settle me a little. We might have to wait and see her to make a final decision, but maybe this will narrow the list! Feel free to leave comments with any name suggestions too!

She's Ours!!!!

It's official, the van is ours! The title came in the mail yesterday. The first new car that Ryan or I ever bought is finally paid for. I'm proud of us for paying it off in just under 2 1/2 years. Yay! Now to payoff the next car...

Christmas is around the corner!

I can't believe Christmas is just around the corner! It always makes me sad when its over and I feel like its gone so fast I haven't gotten to soak it all in as much as I usually do. We've put off some of our annual traditions because of the general craziness of our lives lately, but I'm hoping to squeeze them in sometime in the next week amongst all our other things going on.

Ryan's new job seems to be going well. So far he hasn't been too stir crazy stuck at home everyday, and the kids have been pretty good to let him work. Its been great for me to have him here because I can run errands during nap time or leave the kids watching a movie if I need to run somewhere really quick, or I can call in backup when I really need it. Its fabulous! We had the first annual Christmas party with his new company and had a great time. The people were great and the gifts they gave us were sent from heaven. :) A spa gift certificate and gift card to PF Changs for me, and a notebook and Amazon gift card for Ryan. These people know how to give gifts! There is still a lot of adjusting for us to do with this new job, but so far, so good.

As part of all the adjusting, I have started my own little business as a Lia Sophia jewelry advisor. I had my grand opening party last week and it went pretty well, thanks to my great friends and neighbors. I have 4 parties lined up in the new year and they will be all on my own, I'm a little nervous, but excited and hope I can get the hang of it before the baby comes, and then, baby willing, I'll pick back up and hopefully bring in a little extra income. So, if anyone is ever looking for jewelry for yourself or for gifts, think of me!! And if anyone wants to host a party for me, I'd love you forever. :D Along with this, I got a new calling at church as Compassionate Service leader. So far its been a busy calling, considering our ward averages 15 pregnant women at any given time, but I've been enjoying it so far. We've had two babies in the past week and two more due before Christmas! Phew. Thank goodness for a great ward that is always willing to pitch in when I ask for it.

The pregnancy is coming along well. I'm starting to get uncomfortable a little sooner than I was hoping, but so far I can't complain too much, although Ryan would probably say I sure can complain! :) I have been having lots of trouble with round ligament pain this pregnancy, and that hasn't eased up, and this week I started having some sciatic nerve pain, not very fun. My belly gets pretty darn sore and tired by the end of the day cause its growing so fast, but the kids and Ryan are pretty good at letting me rest when I need to. The heartburn is also a good friend at this point, although I've had a pretty good week this week so far. But, the baby is good and active and it is a true joy for me to feel her and watch her kicking around in there. I love it, even when its a little uncomfortable I still love it because its seems like such a miracle. Whenever I'm frustrated because I'm not feeling well, or I'm being short with the kids, I just have to sit or lay down for a while and feel her kick around and it quickly improves my mood. So far all of my tests have gone well, I failed the 1-hour glucose test, but passed the 3-hour test. It was miserable, but I'm glad I passed. Today I'm scheduled to get my Rhogam shot, another not very fun thing, but I'm very grateful they have a shot now. Back just a couple of generations ago it would have been very difficult for Ryan and I to have children, and now I just get a couple of shots and all is well. Thank you modern medicine. **Update: didn't get Rhogam today, turns out you have to be 28 weeks and I was 27 weeks 6 days...weird rules. Baby is doing well and kicked like crazy for the doctor.

Well, soon I will post more pictures and some of our Christmas activities, but I thought it was time I posted something!

Belly Update

I'm 24 weeks now, woohoo! I always seem to celebrate this mile marker because, even though I have no history of problems, I have a nephew who was born at 24 weeks and lived to tell the tale, so it feels like a great place to be.

I had my glucose test yesterday and I am anxiously awaiting the results. I failed the one hour test with James, so its very possible I could again. Especially since I was diagnosed with an insulin issue after James was born, so I'm trying to gear up for the three hour test in case it comes to that again. Ugh, I hate that test! Let's just hope that if it comes to that I can at least pass the three hour test again. My risk for gestational diabetes is a lot higher with my condition, so it makes me nervous, but so far, no news.

All went well at my appointment. I had my belly measured for the first time this pregnancy, and shock of all, I'm measuring big. I always do. I would be shocked if I didn't.

We've made progress on the baby name front. We have a name that the whole family seems to agree on, except I just can't seem to say "this is it" just yet. Its so funny, I'm the one who was pushing to pick a name so hard and now i'm the one who can't commit. Weirdo. I really like the name, I do, but I'm kind of holding out hope that Ryan will change his feelings on one of my other favorite names, but so far he isn't convinced.

In other news, Ryan is undergoing some major job changes. He resigned from his current position on Wednesday. He is going into business with a few friends. The company is new and tiny, but so far thriving, so we have our fingers crossed that all will go well. Ryan is thrilled to have something new to look forward to, and I am thrilled that he will be working from home! It is going to be a tough first few months money wise, so if I'm a little on edge, blame it on being pregnant and dealing with a scary new job! But, hopefully before long the risk will pay off. Our insurance will be changing because of all of this, of course, and I figured out the major change won't happen until about a week before the baby is scheduled to be born, so I mentioned this to my doctor and he said he may be able to deliver me earlier to avoid that annoying transition at the end. Score! One great thing about having c-sections and big babies, we can do stuff like this. We will keep you posted on that.

Here is a quick preview of the nursery. It is the cutest room ever, if I do say so myself! I have a few things to hang still, and my niece is well underway doing the painting that will flank the window and complete the room. I will of course post pictures of the whole room when its totally done, but I couldn't wait to post this part. Enjoy! :)

"The Wall"

Anyone who is my facebook friend, or lives anywhere near me, has been hearing a lot about the new wall we are building. I thought it was about time to post the pictures of its progress. I've been so impressed with Ryan, he has worked tirelessly for two weeks and it is almost done! I can't believe how fast he got it done, considering how little time he has to work on it. And, of course, my wonderful Father-in-law has chipped in his time and tools to help as well. I am completely in love with it. After we get the door hung (it was too big so my father-in-law is cutting it down for us), a little bit of touch up paint, and some caulk it will be done and I couldn't be happier. Next step is to decorate the nursery and I am beyond excited about that! Can't wait to reveal the finished product. I hope its as cute in real life as it is in my head! The wall puts us off to a good start!

The playroom before the wall.

Hanging dry wall

All the dry wall is up, the last two pictures are as close to a picture of Ryan with the wall as I could get!

The ceiling fans. There is one in the babies room and one in the toy room, aren't they cute??

The wall with paint and trim! Yes, it is exactly that bright of a color.

It is impossible to be sad in either of those rooms now, the color is too happy! I realize it is not a color you can get away with in very many places in a house, but for the toy room and nursery, it totally works. At least I think so! All of the pictures are taken from the perspective of the toy room cause its easier, but both sides of the wall are that color. I will obviously post pictures from inside the new room when its all ready!

Halloween Fun!

Halloween was a whirl wind of activity and a fog of sugar. We had a great time. James was not nearly as into it as we imagined he would be, but he ended up having a good time anyway. Beth was a woman on a mission. She wore her costume as much as possible and if there was candy around, she was going to find it!

Beth had lots of halloween activities all week, but our family fun started at Daddy's work trick-or-treat. James refused to wear his costume and wasn't even all that interested in getting candy, but he eventually caught on. Beth made sure we hit every possible cubicle and made sure everyone knew what a pretty fairy princess she was, not that there was any doubt! :)

Do you see all that loot!

My adorable kids in their costumes. Fairy Princess and Race Car Driver, fitting, don't you think?

Then Saturday we got both kids in their costumes and headed out to hit the neighborhood, we didn't do very many houses because the kids were already loaded from their first attempt, but we had to go to a few houses. Then we headed to Grandma and Gramdpa Owen's house to see the cousins in their costumes and hang out eating root beer floats and donuts. mmm. I ate so much junk it wasn't even funny! What fun Halloween is!
