Swimming

James just had his first swim lesson. I won't say it was a raving success, but it went much better than expected. For some reason James is a little bit of a fraidy cat, about a lot of things. He can be really brave about others, but it takes him a while to warm up to most things. We went swimming several times last year and he always liked it, but after taking the Winter off, he FREAKED when I took him last week. So, I signed him up for a mom and tot class to ease him in and teach him to like the water. I grew up in the water and loved every minute of it and want my kids to do the same! I got to the pool a little early so he could watch and adjust to the noise and everything before it was time to jump in. That was a good move, because he was ready to get in by the time it was our turn. He played along with the first several games and songs, and even let me help him float (as long as he could hold the rubber ducky the teacher had). He loved practicing "big arms" to chase the rubber duck around too. Things turned a little south when we were supposed to help the kids float on kick boards around the lazy river, he was NOT into that. After that he sort of wanted to do his own thing and would shriek like a not very well behaved child every time I tried to get him to do whatever we were supposed to be doing, but all-in-all it was better than expected. Not a lot of fear, just a lot of being two. We'll see how the rest of the weeks go. I wish I had pictures, but since I'm in the pool with him, that part is a little tricky!

Birthday Week, James Edition

So we like to do birthday's up big around here, in case you don't know that. James actually had a pretty mild birthday week though, gotta save up for when he really knows what's going on! But here's the run down...

Monday of last week we had a family birthday party with my side of the family. We get together every other month or so to celebrate whoever we need to celebrate! This month is was Ryan, James, Jaime and Daren. It was great fun and a big crowd! I don't think James totally understood that it was partly for him, but he loved the cake and the gifts!

On his birthday I took Beth and James to Chuckecheese. It wasn't crowded at all, so we had a good time playing games and riding rides. They both thought buying prizes with tickets was just about the coolest thing ever! After lunch we went over to the mall to visit the Easter bunny. James liked seeing him from a distance, but the whole sitting on his lap thing was pretty much out of the question. Beth loved him though!

That evening we had the Owen side of the family over for a little shindig. Nothing like pizza and cake and ice cream! James LOVED his "race car" cake! I had to do my best impression of daddy's car since its James' favortite thing in the world. All in all it was a fun birthday and James absolutely loves all the gifts he got. He got lots of hot wheel cars and planes and helicopters. All big hits! Plus a dump truck, books, puzzles, a fire truck and a few other things! Spoiled kid!

We sure love our James!

Birthday Boy!

Today is my James' birthday! I can hardly believe that it has been 2 years. Our family just wouldn't be the same without him. He is a joy and he keeps us laughing. He's silly and fun, but can be focused and serious too. He loves to eat, loves to be like daddy, and loves cars, planes, helicopters or anything of that nature. Luckily he still gives me a little cuddle time now and then, but he is no doubt my big boy. He already has a great imagination and he plays really well with other kids. I love him dearly and even though at the moment he is practicing his new 2-year-old whining powers, I wouldn't trade him for the world! Here are just a few highlights from his first two years...

Happy Birthday James!! We Love You!!
