Last Thursday my family and I attempted our second ever family vacation. We drove down to ST. George with my parents for a quick get away. It was tons of fun! The kids did amazingly well in the car on the way there, helped along by lots of snacks and DVD's, and a nap of course. Once we got to the hotel we had to jump straight into the pool and get our wiggles out. The kids had a great time, and Beth made some great progress toward swimming (with water wings) she was very brave and willing to try everything I wanted to teach her. That night we went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse, and the kids did great again. That night sleeping in the hotel was a bit tricky. It took the kids along time to settle down and then Ryan and I did not sleep well at all, our kids are NOISY sleepers!
Day 2 started out with breakfast at the hotel and then we jumped in the car and headed for Zion's! We went to the Kolob canyon entrance first, and it was AMAZING! The weather was beautiful and the scenery even better. We drove around the scenic drive and then found a short hike to attempt with the kids. It turns out James is part mountain goat! The hike was about a mile and James walked almost the entire way! Beth walked on the way up, but was ready to be carried on the way down. I can't even describe how breath taking it was. Absolutely beautiful. Of course being the great photographer that I am, I forgot my camera! I'm so annoyed at myself still! My mom took pictures, I'll share some when she sends me some of them. After that we left the park to have lunch, then we headed to the South entrance of Zion, the drive was perfect for the kids to catch a quick nap and then we drove the scenic road again. Again, absolutely indescribable. I loved every minute of it. We stopped for ice cream and souvenirs and then back to the hotel for more swimming! After dinner the kids slept a little easier from our busy day.
Day 3, my parents had to take off early Saturday morning, so it was just our little family. We headed into downtown St. George to see the temple and the tabernacle. We played at the little splash park by the tabernacle until lunch time and then we had to go to In-n-Out before we could head home! It was SO yummy. I'm still craving more. :) Then we hoped in the car and headed home. The kids did amazing on the drive home, especially considering we practically spent 3 days in the car. We were all glad to get home and Ryan and I slept like rocks Saturday night in our own bed and the kids all the way down the hall! It was definitely a quick trip, but we really enjoyed it, and we have to ease the kids into this sleeping away from home thing. Hopefully since we survived this one so well we will be able to attempt more vacations in the future!
