Concert!

Its time again for a Sterling Singers concert! For those of you who don't know, I am a member of a community choir that I LOVE. We have been working on a patriotic concert for 9/11 that I am really excited about. Its a great concert to wake us up about what we love about America and to pay tribute to those who have fought for us. I think it'll be pretty moving, and exciting, and fun. Basically, I think everyone should come. I can't seem to get the invitation to load to my blog, so here is the info:

September 11th & 12th at 7:30pm
Granite Tabernacle
2005 S. 900 E.
Salt Lake City

You can also learn more about the choir and see the invitation on our website, http://sterlingsingers.com/events.aspx

Admission is Free! Its a great date night idea. :) I hope to see a few familiar faces there.

Pregnancy Update, and Birthday Week Day 1

So, first a quick pregnancy update. Things are going well, from the baby perspective anyway. I'm almost 11 weeks and my belly is growing like a proverbial weed. I plan to take my first belly shot soon to prove my point. I'm still feeling pretty yucky, and my lovely pregnancy migraines seem to have kicked in. I've had 3 in the last week. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the pace slows down at least. This past weekend I got Strep Throat on top of all of that, and it definitely made for a miserable mama, but things are improving now that the throat feels better and I don't have a fever. I feel grateful to just have morning sickness today.

On a lighter note, yesterday was my birthday! Hooray! For those of you who know me well, you know that I LOVE my birthday. And I don't just celebrate for one day if I can help it! Yesterday started with breakfast at Village Inn with the family, very yummy, but I forget that I'm no allowed to eat that much in the morning anymore, so I regretted it for a few hours, but it was still fun. I actually enjoy taking my kids out to breakfast, they are delightful and they actually eat, its really fun. Then after accomplishing a few normal tasks, Beth's music class, a trip to Costco, and a nap (all while my mom cleaned my kitchen from stem to stern), My mom and I and the kids headed to Thanksgiving Point Gardens to meet my sister and her kids. It was beautiful and there was a nice breeze most of the time keeping us cool. After the gardens we hurried home and my mom hunkered down with the kids while Ryan took me to Spaghetti Factory for dinner and then to see "The Time Travelers Wife". It was a wonderful evening. As far as gifts go, I got Photoshop Elements (woohoo!), a lenscap keeper for my camera, a book, a candle, and a gift card. A pretty good haul for not even having a party if I do say so myself. :) So now I just have to plan the rest of my weeks festivities. :) Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, I felt very loved this year.

Me, from Ryan's perspective

Awhile ago I did one of those "50 Things About Me" things and Ryan thought I was too hard on myself, so he wrote his version for me. I had to share it. It shows you my wonderful, witty husband and how lucky I am to have him...Although, I could argue a few of his points, I won't.

1. She is a people person. Good thing too, because I'm definitely not.
2. She is brilliant. She'll tell you otherwise, but she really is a smart girl.
3. She hates prickly bushes. Not just a casual dislike, either.
4. She cries easily. She is very tender hearted.
5. She likes bread. I mean really likes bread. Even the dirt flavored kind.
6. She is baby crazy.
7. She talks a lot. Not in a bad way; she just always has a lot to say.
8. She wishes she kept in touch with her siblings more. It's hard, since they're spread all over the country.
9. She *thinks* she loves being pregnant, but is really miserable the whole time.
10. She likes sour candy.
11. She likes being the center of attention.
12. She is a wonderful example to me and our kids. Kind, loving, and gentle... except to prickly bushes.
13. She has lots and lots of shoes.
14. She prefers to go barefoot, despite the large quantity of shoes.
15. She didn't *really* initiate our relationship... she just dropped some subtle hints until I asked her out.
16. She has great hair.
17. She really doesn't like to be tickled.
18. She is a great mom.
19. She wants to start some new hobbies, but is having a hard time
coming up with ideas. Any suggestions?
20. She loves to change diapers. She denies it, but deep down, she knows it's true. Especially the smelly ones.
21. She is brainwashed to think that BYU is the only college worth attending or rooting for.
22. It gets her riled up when I say that.
23. She's cute when she's riled up. It's great fun.
24. She doesn't like bugs. I keep trying to convince her to take up gardening, but she can't stand the thought of the bugs involved.
25. She's never touched a lawn mower in her life.
26. She's not a morning person, but better at getting up in the morning than a lot of people I know.
27. When her teeth feel dirty to her, she says they're "fuzzy".
28. She likes to shop. Especially if she can do it without the kids.
29. She loves her kids more than anything in the world. Even when she has to take them shopping.
30. She is baby crazy.
31. She really likes it when people comment on her blog
32. She has a degree in Marriage, Family, and Human Development (I think thats what its called)
33. She loved her college experience
34. She is very good at pretending to be interested in my work, even though I'm sure it's very boring to her.
35. She is great with little kids.
36. She loves a good chick-flick. And they usually make her cry.
37. But she likes a little sci-fi too. Those don't usually make her cry. But sometimes.
38. She is lots of fun to be around. She always brightens the room.
39. My family loves her.
40. She doesn't like that one kind of flower... I think it's carnations. I can never remember for sure, though, so I'm always afraid to get her anything but roses and stuff.
41. Luckily, she really likes roses.
42. She wants to take singing lessons. Anybody know a good (and affordable) voice teacher?
43. She is addicted to blogs.
44. She likes reality TV shows (some of them). But she's kind enough
to not make me watch them. Most of the time.
45. She speaks a little bit of Spanish.
46. She likes "Dr. Who". Go figure.
47. She has read all of Jane Austin's novels. Now that's endurance.
48. She read and loved all of those new vampire/love story novels.
49. She is obsessed with the TV show "Monk".
50. But at least that's better than "Gilmore Girls", her previous favorite TV show.
51. She is baby crazy.

Obviously, he wrote it before I was pregnant. Which makes him think that #9 is especially funny.

My Big Boy!

James just seems to be growing and maturing by leaps and bounds lately. I'm a little sad because I've help on to his babyness a little harder since I could, but at the same time I am so proud of my big boy!

We moved Beth's old toddler bed into James room several weeks ago when we set up her new bed, and he slept one nap in it and then hadn't shown much interest since then, but I didn't want to push him, I just kept asking which bed he wanted. Three night ago he picked the "big boy bed" and did pretty well. It took him a while to go to sleep and he woke up pretty early and was a little disoriented, but for the most part did well. The next night was better and he even took a great nap in his bed yesterday, and then last night it was the "big boy bed" again and it was fabulous! I heard him awake and went to get him this morning and he was laying in bed and said "I'm sleeping again mom" so I left the room and he stayed there for a while waking up and then came out when he was ready. I can't believe how big he is.

He also has asked me a few times if he can try going potty. We are definitely not in full potty training mode yet, but he's getting interested and I'm trying to promote that idea.

And, for those of you who know him, you know he is a talker! He talks up a storm, long sentences and all, and his imagination surprises me on a regular basis. He pays attention to everything we do and loves to be a big helper.

As the news of the new baby seems to be dawning on him, he likes to pretend he's a baby now and then, but mostly he talks about baby names and about when the doctor takes the baby out so he can finally hold it. Sweet kid.

The Mind of a Three-Year-Old

Beth has had some funny things to say about the baby I thought I would share.

First, the day I went to the doctor I told her that he had told me that there was a baby in my tummy. I showed her the ultrasound picture and explained that that is where the baby will live until its big enough to come out. Beth got a concerned face and said "It looks scary in there mom." I said that it wasn't scary, just dark, and she replied "I'm pretty sure the baby is afraid of the dark mom, you better do something." Sweet kid.

Then, yesterday I was laying on the couch battling a wave of nausea when Beth came over to "take care of me" as she often does. Then she looked at my belly in surprise (it really is growing at an alarming rate already) and said, "Look mom! The baby is all growed up, the doctor can take it out now!" Obviously she does not recall how large my belly will really get...*sigh*

Let's Make This Official...

The word is out, as is my very early belly. I'm pregnant! WAHOO! I'm only 8 1/2 weeks or so (making me due March 12th, Ryan's birthday!), but we saw a heart beat on Thursday so I'm finally breathing a little easier. People are already asking my if I'm pregnant because I'm starting to show already. If there is one thing my body knows how to do in pregnancy its make a belly! So far the pregnancy has been a little rough, just lovely "morning sickness" which is a total lie, its all day, but hey. So I apologize for my nasty house, my lack of energy and lack of pretty much everything except tv watching and laying on the couch, there is a lot of that going on. I feel bad that my kids are pretty much left to their own devices most days, but so far they are surviving. Thanks for those of you who have rescued them on occasion so they can actually see walls other than our own. I was going to post the ultrasound picture, but I think I moved when he took the shot and you can't actually see the baby in the print out, whoops. We told the kids and Beth is beyond excited. James keeps trying to see what we are talking about, to no avail. They both say its a baby sister, and this week the baby's name is Ella. I guess we'll see if they are right. Wish me luck! I've been wanting this for a long time and now i'm getting nervous how this 3 kid thing works...prayers would be appreciated! :)
